Holden used the potty three times last night. What's even better is he told us that he had to go. "Pee now, pee noooow" he'd say. We'd bring him to the potty and he'd pee. We're pretty psyched. We've had very good success losing the diaper at home and letting the kid go bare-bottom while training. This worked well for Scarlett, and appears to be working for Holden as well. Holden is actually skipping the little potty and going right to the adult one. I think it's a combo of wanting to do what Scarlett does and, really, his butt is just too big for the little potty. We'll keep you posted!

Guess what??
It's official. Scarlett is potty trained.
She is going to daycare tomorrow in her big girl underwear.
Yes Holden. We think that deserves applause too.

A potty training update
Scarlett is kicking butt in the potty training department.
Because she had to be in diapers at daycare we were keeping her in diapers at home too to remain consistent. Well...we weren't getting anywhere. When we got home we were bringing her to the potty every hour AND SHE WOULD PEE EVERY TIME...but when we took her diaper off to go potty - it was wet (which obviously means she was still peeing in her diaper too in between the potty trips).
We figured it would be one of two things. Either Scarlett was not yet able to hold her pee, or Miss Smarty Pants knew she had a diaper on and was making complete and total use of it. Turns out, it was the latter.
Having gotten completely frustrated, we decided to lose the diapers at home and have had complete and total success. It's amazing. If we're at home, she's diaperless. We had a couple of accidents initially, but not for about a week now and we've gotten to the point where she is telling us when she has to go...or grabbing at her crotch which makes it pretty obvious to us that she has to go. She has even done "the big business" the past 2 mornings. We haven't gotten brave enough to leave the house diaperless yet. And she still has to wear diapers at daycare until they give us the "thumbs up" to lose them, but she is doing so very well!
And thank you to all the family members who have gotten calls from Scarlett screaming into the phone "I DID POOPIES IN THE POTTY!!!" I know those can't be easy phone calls to get, especially at 6:15 am.
Yay Bubs!

A potty update...
We're potty training Bubs...remember? Our original plan of keeping Bubs in underwear while she's at home went out the window. Turns out, we're rarely at home. And she has to remain in a diaper at daycare until she's fully trained. With consistency being key, we've decided to keep her diapered at home too so she A) doesn't get confused, and B) doesn't develop the capability of distinguishing the difference between a diaper and underwear.
I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't give you all an update until 3 potty successes occurred. This has happened, so here's your update;
1) Last week while giving Scarlett a bath, she tells us she has to go. We put her on the potty and she peed. Joe and I danced around like crazy making complete and total fools of ourselves for her benefit and she got to eat 3 M&M's as a reward despite the fact that she was already back in the tub.
2) A few nights ago, Scarlett told us she had to go poopies. We were expecting to take off her diaper and see that she had already gone (which is quite often the case). But she hadn't already gone. We sat her on the potty and she went. It wasn't a full out poop, but when she got up there was poop in there and that counts in our book. Dancing and M&M's followed. She was incredibly proud of herself.
3) Yesterday, Scarlett peed in the potty at school - which is huge. (And she was the first kid in her class to do so.) It conveniently happened right as Joe had gotten to daycare to pick her up. Her class came out of the bathroom and Scarlett was smiling from ear to ear. Joe said she screamed down the hall "Daddy, I went pee pee in the POTTY!" She then proceeded to tell every teacher/director/parent she met on the way to the car that she did pee pee in the potty. And, quite appropriately, they all gave her high fives. (I love this daycare!) Joe bought her an entire donut as a reward.
So there they are. We're hoping that this last success at school will help quite a bit. There are about 20 teachers there ready to congratulate her every time it happens, which Scarlett thrives on. She is definitely getting a kick out of her little support system. I know we still have a long ways to go, but it seems like something may have clicked with her recently.

A potty training don't
Up until we actually started potty training, we had two potties in the house - one for each bathroom. Well, one potty was quickly eliminated last week. Scarlett sat on it the wrong way and somehow got hurt and now it has to be gone or out of fear Scarlett will never sit on another potty for the rest of her life. This currently leaves us pottyless in the upstairs bathroom.
Before her bath last night, Joe put Scarlett on the adult toilet in the upstairs bathroom figuring it would suffice. Well...it didn't. As she started to actually fall into the toilet, as she's clambering to grab onto me, onto Joe, onto ANYTHING within reach, Scarlett yells,
"not working. This not working! AAaahhhhhhhhh! I HAVE A TINY HINEY BUTT!!!"
She's right. She does. And thus, we have encountered our first potty training don't. Scarlett's "tiny hiney butt" is, in fact, too tiny for our adult toilets. And we're all going to be okay.

My girl likes to potty all the time...
We've introduced underwear. We've done it.
Scarlett is getting moved to the potty training room in daycare a month earlier than anticipated. (This is due to her being "developmentally ready." Woo-hoo Bubsy! I'm very proud of you!) We've had a potty in our house for about 6 months now, but would only put Scarlett on it if she asked. She peed in it a couple of times - she pooped in it once - but we were waiting for her to get moved into this particular daycare room before we decided to really work on potty training. In this room they have official "potty time" built into the daily schedule. Every hour, they line up and walk down the hall to the cutest set of miniature toilets you'll ever see.
So, come next Monday, the potty training wheels will be in FULL motion. Because of this, we purchased some fun new underwear for Bubs. Observe...
Apparently, diapers must weigh Scarlett down or something. We took her diaper off and put her in underwear - and she took off. I have about a dozen pictures of Scarlett sprinting around the house in her new Cinderella underwear.
And what better way to potty train than to sit on your potty watching Cinderella...with your new Cinderella underwear around your ankles?
Scarlett sat on the potty for the whole movie. And she peed! Woo-hoo Bubs. I know we have a long way to go. Scarlett will have to remain in diapers at daycare until she can prove to be potty trained - but when she gets home, the diapers will come off and the new underwear goes on.
But that is not to suggest that the underwear will stay on...
Oh Bubs.

Guess what we did?!
Well...I'll just let Scarlett tell you. That's right, folks. Scarlett did poopies in the potty. And we're not even officially "potty training" yet. In fact, we maybe sit on the potty once a day for about 30 seconds - and that's only if she asks to. And we usually don't even take her diaper off. But tonight, I did, and look what happened. I think I actually scared her I got so excited. As you can see, she's eating an Andes mint that she got as a reward. "What?!" you may be saying. I know. I don't even have M&M's in the house (the typical potty reward) because we weren't planning on starting training for a while. In fact, we're still not really going to start for another month or so. But still, I'm very proud of her! It was all I could do to not take a picture of the actual poop.
