Holden gets a haircut

Holden got his first haircut. It was bittersweet, really. Joe and I had convinced ourselves that Holden's hair would get fun if we let it grow out a for awhile. We were kidding ourselves. Holden had some seriously crazy Nick Nolte baby hair. (For those of you that may be unfamiliar with Nick Nolte baby hair, here it is.) Holden's hair had taken on a life of its own, so we cut it. The hairdresser assured us that once we got rid of all the fine, wispy baby hair, it would grow in faster, and fuller...and, maybe, more surfer boy-esque. But definitely less Nick Nolte mugshot-esque. Here is a before shot: Holy shag. Holden didn't even flinch while having his haircut. It was like he was meant to be styled professionally.
I finally gave him a lollipop - not as a distraction, but as a "mom will be sad if you don't get to have your first lollipop and your first haircut simultaneously" maneuver. These things are meant to go hand in hand.

Needless to say, he liked the lollipop. The final product, WITH some product.
He's totally cute. And if there were any women who thought he was adorable before he got his haircut - look out. He is an official heartbreaker now.

Story of a Working Mom

You have a job. And you love that job.
Then you have a baby. And man. You REALLY love that baby. But there's that whole job thing. So, faced with the difficult decision of staying home or working, you choose to work. And you send baby to daycare.
Your baby is at daycare all day. You work all day, often daydreaming about baby while staring at the pictures of baby's smiling face that are hung up in your office. (You really miss baby.)
Outside of the basics, you know very little about how baby spends the day. You know baby is safe, of course, and fed and cared for - but if baby laughs, you don't hear it. If baby does something cute or dances or claps, you don't see it. And that makes you sad sometimes.

But then, baby's teacher sends you a picture like this:and a picture like this:and you get a glimpse of how baby is spending the day. And you see baby is happy and around people that care enough about them to take their picture in the first place. And this really makes you smile.

Guess what?

That's what.
